Fun!!

Ok, so that last post was heavy, but needed. As I said, things ebb and flow. That is the journey of life. One thing I am reminded of during this holiday season is to have FUN!! Yes, I travel and I'm not working, but I realized that I need to make sure to plan fun. I love seeing people and new places but fun can be anything we want it to be. Even if it's just belting a song out-loud in your car.

A friend posted this meme, which if you are in my car, fair warning :) When I traveled 24 hours across the Midwest at the beginning of my gap year, I thought I'd listen to podcasts and "learn some things." Nope, I listened to the 80's essential music on Sirus XM. It lasted for about 8 hours, wow! And I belted the melodies of all the songs I grew up with at the top of my lungs! I LOVE music, I always have. I even had aspirations to be a "backup" singer when I was younger. However, I didn't take that dream forward. Sometimes I wish I had.

Some of the fun that I plan to have in Boise and when I'm back in Chicago/Midwest in 11 days is; the Tri Delta Pine Party, lunches with friends, Lights at Scentsy Commons, hot spring somewhere (we have them everywhere here), ice skating at the Christmas Market at Wrigley Field, baking cookies, shopping, laughing and just enjoying life. I was reminded today by my childhood friend, Tricia, about ice skating at the Bettendorf Lagoon! Yes, it is called a Lagoon. Although I'm not sure why, because the definition is a body of salt water, and it certainly wasn't that. It was so cold in Iowa during the winter, but we put on our skates and went out and had fun! There was a warming house so we could come in and get warm and then when we got home, hot cocoa was waiting as well. I still have those skates. They are sitting in a closet and I don't remember the last time I tried them on. But seeing them makes me smile and makes me think of all the fun I had doing that. And I loved sledding! I would offer to take the next-door neighbor kids when I got older and thought maybe I was too old to go on my own. I wasn't but those were the things I thought.

Life can get so serious. We get so focused on achieving goals and doing things the "right way" (definitely for me). But we easily forget about the fun. As I said, even though I'm not working a 9-5 job, I have to make sure I plan my "fun." And we don't have to be perfect when we have that fun! If we burn the cookies or don't make it to something we wanted to do, that's ok. We are doing the things we should be doing at the time we should be doing them. I truly believe that. If my plan A doesn't work out, then on to plans B, C, D, etc.. And I embrace whatever that may be. I didn't used to do that. I was so worried about things being perfect and what the world expected me to do. Wear the sparkly shoes, the princess dress, the crazy outfit, and your favorite pajamas to the store!! Embrace the fun! So, if you see me singing at the top of my lungs or doing something odd, just know I'm having fun! And I hope you do too!!
